Engineering-led diagnostics
was established in September 2015 by Paul Townley after recognising a growing need for a more thorough, honest and technically capable automotive service — especially for electrical and diagnostic faults that don’t respond to guesswork or parts darts.
Paul began in the motor trade in 1997 as a Peugeot Technician apprentice. Since then he’s worked across multiple marques and specialist roles, including:
- Peugeot Technician
- Jaguar Technician
- BMW Technician
- Ford Technician
- Renault Technician
- Vauxhall Technician
- Volvo Technician
- Green Flag and AA Patrol (real-world breakdown diagnosis)
Alongside automotive work, Paul served as a Royal Navy Aircraft Engineer and later as a Princess Yachts Marine Engineer. That background brings a systems-based, methodical approach to modern vehicles — exactly what’s needed for complex electrical faults, intermittent issues and network problems.
After becoming disillusioned with bonus-driven dealer environments that encourage cutting corners, Paul built AutoFix around doing the job properly: disciplined diagnosis, clear communication, and repairs completed to a very high standard.
Specialist interests
- Advanced auto-electrics and fault isolation
- Parasitic drains (current draw testing + thermal imaging)
- CAN/LIN network diagnostics and module communication faults
- Oscilloscope-based signal analysis
- Security, in-car electronics, audio and bespoke integrations
- Upgraded charging systems and performance-focused engineering solutions
AutoFix supports both retail customers and independent garages who need a second opinion or specialist electrical/diagnostic help on vehicles that are difficult to resolve in-house.
